Bring Down The Sky

Dark Spartan796

I sat down today and played through the Mass Effect DLC, “Bring Down The Sky.” Just a precaution, the following post contains spoilers about the content’s…well, content, so if you want to keep yourself blissfully unaware of what happens, avert your eyes now.

Basically, this race called the Batarians has taken control of an asteroid in orbit over Terra Nova in the Asgard system. They’ve activated the fusion engines which were used to move the asteroid into orbit (the asteroid was moved there because it contained valuable resources worth mining), and have set the asteroid on a collision course with the planet. It’s up to Commander Shepard to prevent this disaster.

Basically the gameplay entails you landing on the asteroid’s surface in the Mako, driving to each one of the fusion engine stations, fighting your way through the control centers at each one, and disabling them. Finally you head to the main facility to confront the leader, Balak. You’ll also encounter a guy who managed to survive the initial attack, and he fills you in on all the details, and also asks you to search for a group of engineers who have gone missing (and when you find them, they are dead, of course).

I’m playing Renegade this time around and I’ve gotta say Shepard really shows balls in some of the situations here. In the final confrontation with Balak, Balak gives you the choice to step aside and let them leave after what they’ve done. If you go ahead and attack him, he sets off some explosive charges which kill some of the engineers who have been captured. Doing this gives you 25 Renegade points. Finally, when the battle’s all over, he goes on about how “you’re the real terrorist” after you sacrificed those prisoners just to kill him, despite his intentions to run the asteroid into the ground. Balak asks, “who’s the real terrorist here,” and Shepard says a one-liner along the lines of “you, and you’re dead” and shoots him in the head. Badass.

Of course there’s other choices to take there, but that one was the coolest.

The DLC also comes with a 50-Gamerscore achievement that you unlock just by completing the mission. Awesome.

In a nutshell, I thought the DLC was pretty decent. It didn’t cost me much (400 points), and it weighs in at around 253 MB for download. If you’re looking for a recommendation, you found one.
